Stylebook Book Club - Book 8

I first picked up “Dress with Sense” by Redress while randomly browsing the fashion section at my local bookshop. The book provides a lot of information on how anyone can enjoy fashion, while being a little more environmentally friendly. The best part is that being planet-conscious is also style and budget conscious! For example, line drying your clothes makes them last longer, and it also saves energy. When I sat down and read the book, I realized how many ideas that have been key to Stylebook for years also overlap with key conscious closet principles (They even mention Stylebook in the book, which was an awesome surprise!). If you enjoy the app, then you probably already subscribe to many of the ideas on maintaining your wardrobe, like keeping track of what you own and remixing your outfits. The book has even more to offer on laundry techniques, refashioning, thrifting, swapping and styling! These ideas help you get more mileage out of your clothes and as a result help reduce waste, which I find really exciting.

If you’re like me and you’re new to the idea of a conscious closet, it can be a little overwhelming. There is so much information that it can be hard to know where to start. I was curious about the conscious closet movement thanks to a mind-blowing article about a fast fashion chain storing $4.3 billion dollars in unsold trendy merchandise. Since then, every week I seem to discover a new blog, brand or social media account dedicated to conscious fashion. I also noticed brands like Athleta are introducing sustainable fabrics, Eileen Fischer is recycling garments and I even read a full multi-page feature on how to work towards a more conscious closet in O Magazine! I think it’s fair to say that it’s gone mainstream and “Dress with Sense” is great introduction to the subject!
